Pat Cummins believes that both Smith and Labuschagne will emerge out of their paltry batting form in the forthcoming matches. The Australian pacer also said that the duo has been scoring runs in recent months. He further stated that no one is stressing about their poor form in the Australian camp.
Remarkably, the Australian batting line-up has struggled massively during the first two Test matches against India. None of the Australian batsmen could manage to score a fifty for the 1st time in 32 years. Talking about Smith and Labuschagne, they are the two senior batsmen of the Australian side, and the spotlight has been on them due to their struggles.
While talking to the media in a virtual press conference, Pat Cummins offered a message supporting the two finest Australian batsmen.
Both the batsman Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne have faced difficulty scoring runs in the first two Tests against India. However, both of them struggled in different ways. Steve Smith failed to get going and could only register a top score of 8 in 4 innings. The right-hander notably got dismissed for a duck in the 1st innings of the Boxing Day Test. This was also his first Test duck against the men in blue. Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been Smith’s arch-enemy as he has dismissed him twice already in this series.
Quite the opposite, Marnus Labuschagne has dropped his good starts against the Indian team. The Australian batsman has scored more than 25 runs in 3 innings that he has played. Despite that, Marnus is yet to record a half-century in the series.
Pat Cummins makes reckless AB de Villiers claim
During the press conference, Pat Cummins also discussed the most formidable batsman he has bowled to in Test cricket. He mentioned that AB de Villiers’ ability to switch gears and score swiftly made him the most formidable batsmen to bowl to.
As the Australian pacer has impressed everyone with the ball in hand, Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne have failed to perform against the visitors. The lack of runs from Smith and Labuschagne has put immense pressure on the lower order batsmen. Pat Cummins and the team management will hope that the duo can come out of their poor form and perform their best in the upcoming matches. Regarding the series, both the team are now levelled 1-1.
