India women are currently taking on Sri Lanka women in a complete white-ball series. Meanwhile, the team's vice-captain Smriti Mandhana has now become the fifth Indian player to reach the landmark of 2000 runs in T20I cricket. She is also the third Indian woman cricketer to have achieved this feat. Mithali Raj, Harmanpreet Kaur, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma are the Indian players to have reached this landmark before her.

She reached this landmark in the second match of the T20I series against Sri Lanka. While chasing the target of 126 runs, Mandhana gave India a decent start. She looked in good control in the match as she scored 39 runs in 34 balls in the innings.

She was finally dismissed by Inoka Ranaweera in the 11th over for a team score of 86 runs. Earlier in the match, India was asked to bowl first at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium. Despite a strong start, Sri Lanka were unable to make much progress in their innings.

Vishmi Gunaratne (45 runs in 50 balls) and Chamari Athapaththu (43 runs in 41 balls) put on an 87-run opening partnership to give the team a good start. They were, however, slow in their approach, putting them under pressure. The team then kept losing wickets and ended with a score of 125 runs and losing seven wickets.

Deepti Sharma took two wickets in the game, while Renuka Singh, Radha Yadav, Pooja Vastrakar, and Harmanpreet Kaur took one wicket each. In the chase, Mandhan's innings got the women in blue in a good position.

She hit eight fours in her knock of 39 runs. Harmanpreet Kaur then continued to play well to take the team through. She scored 31 runs in 32 balls to take the team through with five wickets to spare.

With this win, India also claimed the T20I series with one match yet to be played. The final T20I match will be played at the same venue on the 27th of June. The series will then move to Pallekele for the three-match ODI series.
