Sophie Devine, New Zeland women's team captain, suffered an injury during the game against England in the ongoing World Cup. Devine was forced to retire from the match, and Amy Satterthwaite led the team in her absence. New Zealand, however, could not defend their score of 203 as they lost the match by one wicket.

Devine seemed to have suffered a major injury when she reportedly pulled up hurting while attempting to turn for the second run on the first ball of the 15th over at Eden Park. Despite obtaining medical attention for a back ailment on the ground, the seasoned campaigner quickly realised she had injured herself and would be unable to finish her innings.

It is worth noting that Devine was in excellent form during her stint at the wicket, having already scored 37 runs from 42 balls as the hosts looked to score more runs than they actually did. Even the outcome of the game may have been different if it hadn't been for this injury.

While Devine had returned to the crease after receiving treatment and came to bat when Lea Tahuhu was taken for a duck in the 38th over with the Kiwis at 155/6, she was unable to continue from where she had started and was out for 41. This was a must-win game for both teams, and this match has effectively eliminated New Zealand Women from the competition. While they remain mathematically alive, it would take nothing short of a miracle for New Zealand to move forward.

Meanwhile, Australia and South Africa are in the top two in the points table having won all of their games. With only a few games left in the league stages, the competition for the four spots in the semi-final is getting tougher.
