Young Team India cricketer Rishabh Pant met with a horrific accident on 30th December where his car collided with a divider and caught fire. A Himachal Roadways driver and conductor pulled Pant out of the burning car and saved the 25-year-old’s life.
Pant is currently in stable condition but will have to go through months of rehab in order to get back to normalcy. There were reports that he would miss the Indian T20 League. Now former Team India captain and former president of the Indian Cricket Board Sourav Ganguly has come up with concrete news that Pant will certainly miss the mega event.
“Rishabh Pant will not be available for the Indian T20 League. I am in connection with Delhi Franchise. It will be a great Indian T20 League (for the team), we will do well but Rishabh Pant’s injury will affect the Delhi franchise," Ganguly told reporters in Kolkata, as informed by Sports Today.
Sourav Ganguly, a former advisor for the Delhi franchise, left the franchise in 2019 to take on the role of president for the Indian Cricket Board. He was later succeeded by Roger Binny in October 2020. Rishabh Pant, the current captain of the Delhi Capitals, led the team to the playoffs in 2021.
Despite falling short of the playoffs in the previous year, finishing 5th in the table. Pant has been a crucial part of the franchise since his debut in 2016. He is also an important member of the national cricket team and was last seen playing for India in a Test match against Bangladesh four days before his accident. In Pant's absence, KL Rahul will take on the responsibilities of wicketkeeper-batter in ODI matches, while Ishan Kishan will take on the gloves for the shorter format.
The upcoming season of the Indian T20 League is scheduled to start on February 25th with Delhi playing their first match on the 26th.
