Sourav Ganguly has been reported to step down as the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). It has been rumoured that the former Indian captain will be joining politics soon. Ganguly took over as BCCI president in late 2019.

Sourav Ganguly sent out a cryptic tweet earlier today, leaving everyone speculating about his next move. He hinted to everyone about his new journey and sought everyone's assistance in getting the adjustment. He did not, however, specify what the new development is.

"2022 marks the 30th year since the start of my journey with cricket in 1992. Since then, cricket has given me a lot. Most importantly, it has given me the support of all of you. I want to thank every single person who has been a part of the journey, supported me, and helped me reach where I am today. Today, I am planning to start something that I feel will probably help a lot of people. I hope you continue your support as I enter this chapter of my life," read the tweet.

Although he has not formally announced his resignation as President, stories have begun to circulate. Ganguly also hosted Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his home in Bengal last month. Swapan Dasgupta and Amit Malviya, both BJP leaders, were also present at the dinner, which fueled wild speculation about Dada finally taking the leap.

However, BCCI secretary Jay Shah has said that the President will continue his stint. "Sourav Ganguly has not resigned as the president of BCCI," he said, as reported by NDTV.

The Indian national team had a shift in leadership across all three formats of the game during Ganguly's tenure as BCCI president. Virat Kohli, the Indian team's captain since 2017, stood down as T20 captain in November 2021, was replaced as ODI captain the following month, and resigned from the Test captaincy in January this year.
