Cricket South Africa has declared their men’s ODI and T20I squads for the forthcoming home series against Pakistan. Batsman Aiden Markram and all-rounder Wiaan Mulder have returned to the ODI team for the first time in two years. Aiden Markram has not played since the 2019 World Cup in England. The 26-year-old failed to carry on his Test form into the 50-overs format, whereas Mulder last featured against Sri Lanka in March 2019.
The three South Africa vs Pakistan ODIs are scheduled to occur between April 2-7. It will then be followed by a four-match T20I series. CSA has also announced that the players contracted to IPL teams will be released ahead of the tournament. So, that rules out players like Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Quinton de Kock, and Lungi Ngidi.
Temba Bavuma To Lead South Africa in the Limited-Overs Format
This will be Temba Bavuma’s first assignment after he was recently appointed South Africa’s captain in the limited-overs format. The One Day squad will have 22 players, whereas 17 players have been marked out for the T20I team.
Earlier this year, Pakistan and South Africa faced each other in a T20I and Test series in Pakistan. The hosts won both the series and holistically defeated South Africa in their home conditions. Now things are not going to be that easy for Pakistan as they will be up against a strong Proteas team.
Meanwhile, all the games are going to be played in a bio-secure bubble due to the COVID-19 scare. Recently the Pakistan Super League (PSL) had to be postponed as many cricketers tested positive for COVID-19.
