Cricket South Africa has announced the squads for the Sri Lanka tour. The Temba Bavuma-led side will take on the hosts in three ODIs and as many T20Is. The ODI series gets underway on September 2, followed by matches on September 4 and 7. The T20Is will be played on September 10, 12 and 14. All matches of the tour will be played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo behind closed doors.
Wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock and pacer Lungi Ngidi won’t be part of the ODI series. While De Kock has been rested from the 50-over games, Ngidi pulled out due to personal reasons. Both players, however, will return for the T20Is. Also, all-rounder, Dwaine Pretorious has been recalled in both squads. David Miller has been dropped from the ODIs but will be available for the T20I series. Miller is currently recovering from an injury thus his participation will depend on how quickly he recovers.
South come into the series after an impressive series win over Ireland. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, picked up a brilliant T20I series win over India. The series will serve as a great opportunity for both teams to prepare themselves for the T20 World Cup. Sri Lanka, however, will have to go through qualifiers to book a berth in the showpiece event.
