Dean Elgar’s century and some amazing bowling by the South Africans helped them win the first Test on Thursday. This win now gives South Africa an unbeatable 1-0 lead in the series. The second and final game of the series is set to begin on the 3rd of January in Cape Town.  Dubbed the ‘Final Frontier’ this Test Series against South Africa was supposed to be a great chance for India.

After the loss on Thursday, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will look back at this loss with huge regret. It was a memorable game for Dean Elgar the veteran South African who is playing his final series. The 36-year-old scored a memorable century and also captained his side to a huge win. Marco Jansen and the rest of the South African bowlers too played their role to perfection in what has been a commanding performance.

South Africa pummel India to win the Centurion Test –

Trailing by 163 runs, Kagiso Rabada struck first when he had India Cricket skipper Rohit Sharma out for a duck. Yashasvi Jaiswal who is celebrating his 22nd birthday on Thursday was out for five to Nandre Burger.  Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli tried to take the attack to the opposition as the pair added 39 runs for the third wicket. Marco Jansen beat Gill for pace and breached his defence to dismiss for 26.

Virat Kohli was the only batter who stood up to the South African onslaught as he scored yet another Test fifty. The Indian team management namely Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma will look at this game with regret. Only two Indian players managed to reach double figures with the bat. The win came when Marco Jansen got Virat Kohli out for 75 caught by Kagiso Rabada.

Earlier South Africa began the day at 256/5 before being bowled out for 408 runs with an overall lead of 163. Shardul Thakur got the big wicket of Dean Elgar as he was out for 185 runs from 287 balls.  Gerald Coetzee struck 19 runs before becoming wicket number 490 for Ravichandran Ashwin. Marco Jansen recorded his best Test score as he was not out on 84 runs from 147 balls with 11 fours and a six. Jasprit Bumrah was the best bowler for India with 4/69 from his 28.4 overs.
