Sri Lanka cricket board is likely to make INR 89.7 crore for hosting India in the forthcoming limited-overs series. The Indian cricket team will play 3 ODIs from July 13 and as many T20Is from July 21. Shammi Silva, the President of SLC, disclosed that initially, there were going to be only three matches. However, the board later requested the BCCI to let them host six games. Sri Lanka Cricket Board will be able to garner a lot of additional revenue from this upcoming series.
We did not reduce the monthly salaries and allowances of our cricketers: SLC President
The President also added that due to the pandemic, a lot of competitions got canceled and the cricketing schedule was disturbed. However, even in those difficult situations, the Sri Lanka cricket board didn't cut or deduct any players' salaries. Even the allowances of the players remain the same. The committee aims to maintain the same in the coming days, with a lot of regular cricket coming in the year 2021.
The Island nation will be hoping for a positive result in the forthcoming series against India. The team has lost the last three limited-overs series (one against Bangladesh and two against England). The Sri Lankan team has a poor record against India in recent times. The hosts have only managed to win twice in their last 10 ODI encounters. Alongside their poor on-field performance, the Sri Lanka cricket team sustained an off-field controversy. Three cricketers were sent back from England immediately for breaching the bio-bubble.
Meanwhile, the Indian cricket team will be led by senior batsman Shikhar Dhawan whereas Bhuvneshwar Kumar will be his deputy. India's regular players are currently in England for a five-match Test series. Thus, the BCCI named many youngsters for the 3-match ODI and T20I series. Youngsters like Prithvi Shaw, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, Devdutt Padikkal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Varun Chakravarthy, and Chetan Sakariya will get an opportunity to test their grit in international cricket.
