India registered a 3-0 series whitewash against Sri Lanka after beating them by 317 runs on Sunday in the third ODI at Thiruvananthapuram. India, once again, exhibited a show with the bat as they notched a mammoth score of 390 runs on the board in the first innings.
Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill continued their fine form with the bat as the duo formed a 95-run association for the opening wicket. Rohit Sharma, who looked on course to score a hundred, unfortunately, got out after scoring 42 runs in 49 balls.
Shubman Gill, however, ensured he converted the start into a big score. Gill rotated the strike wonderfully and also scored boundaries at regular intervals. Gill notched his second ODI ton and got out after scoring 116 runs in 97 deliveries.
Virat Kohli switched gears after Gillโs departure and produced a show of his masterclass batting. He scored his second hundred in the three-match series and 46th, overall, in ODIs. Kohli played in beast mode after reaching his ton and dealt most of the deliveries in fours and sixes.
He notched his second-best score in One-Day internationals and got out after scoring 166 runs in 110 deliveries at a strike rate of 150.91. Thanks to those valuable contributions, India notched a huge score of 390 runs on the board at the end of the first innings.
Sri Lanka needed to start well with the bat in the second innings but Mohammad Siraj looked in a different mood. He sent Avishka Fernando (1) back to the hut in his very first over and then had Kusal Mendis (4) edge behind the keeper.
Siraj also ratted the stumps of Nuwanidu Fernando (19) and Hasaranga (1) to pick four wickets and leave Sri Lanka reeling at 37 for 5 in 7.3 overs. Karunaratne, unfortunately, got run-out, while Kuldeep Yadav produced a beauty to rattle the stumps of Dasun Shanaka only to dismiss any hopes of Sri Lanka to make a comeback. In the end, they were bundled out for just 73 runs. Here's a look at how Twitter reacted to India's win:
