Sri Lanka secured a comprehensive 187 run victory in the first Test match against West Indies to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series. It was a good display by the home team with the bat and ball. Lankan skipper Dimuth Karunaratne set things nicely by scoring an epic 147 and helping the team reach a competitive 386. Later, the bowlers did a good job by restricting West Indies to just 230. In the second innings also, Karunaratne once again starred with the bat and scored 83, helping Sri Lanka set a target of 348.

The visitors could only manage 160 in their second inning as Lasith Embuldeniya picked up five wickets. Sri Lanka’s emphatic win in the first game of the Test Championship has now taken them to the top of the rankings in the points table. The Cricket's governing body shared an update that said, “Sri Lanka on top. The ICC #WTC23 points table after the first #SLvWI Test."

The Karunaratne-led side went past India who were sitting in the number one position after winning two games against England. Although India have 26 points, the Lankan Lions with 12 points have a better percentage of points (PCT), which is 100 percent for now because they have played only one game. Meanwhile, India have lost one and drew one game, which has placed them with a PCT of 54.17.

Pakistan are sitting third in the points table after winning one match and losing one Test against West Indies. The Caribbean nation and England occupy fourth and fifth place respectively. The former has 12 points with a PCT of 33.33, while the latter has 14 points with a PCT of 29.17. The points table are due to change after each Test match in the WTC cycle.
