After taking the lead of 1-0 in the Test series against Australia, they will lock horns in the second of the four-match Test series at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Friday, the 17th of February later this week. Earlier in the first Test at the VCA stadium in Nagpur, the hosts completely dominated Pat Cummins’ men to win the match by an innings and 132 runs.
But the Indian camp has faced a major blow just ahead of the Delhi fixture against the Aussies, as the star middle-order batter might not make it to the squad of India. Earlier, the senior pacer Jaydev Unadkat had already been released from the squad to lead his state team Saurashtra in the final of the Ranji Trophy against Bengal.
India's middle-order concern rises before the important fixture
Meanwhile, the recent media report of PTI has understood that the star middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer is still there in Bengaluru’s National Cricket Academy for the recovery of his back injury. Previously, the 28-year-old also missed the New Zealand ODIs due to the same injury. Notably, Iyer produced some crucial performances in the white-ball series against Sri Lanka.
Speaking of last Test outings for Iyer, he scored 202 runs in three innings of the two Tests against Bangladesh with an amazing average of 101.00. Other than the knocks of 87 and 86 runs, he also contributed with an unbeaten knock of 29 runs in a match-winning partnership with Ravichandran Ashwin to win the match for India in tough conditions during the Mirpur Test.
Coming back to India’s batting concern in the ongoing Test series against Australia, they have faced a bit of trouble in the middle-order lineup. It is because the middle-order studded with the veterans like Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, and Test debutant Suryakumar Yadav failed to live up to the expectations in the first Test in Nagpur against the Aussies.
