Although it can’t be said firmly that this series will continue this year as well; since 2017, the driver who finished at the top in FP2 has also clinched the title of F1 in that very year. So, there comes a question before the main event of F1 in 2023; that, is this series going to end or will Fernando Alonso clinch his third F1 title?
Aston Martin’s Alonso will compete with the drivers of top teams like Red Bull and Ferrari in the upcoming season of F1. Although the statistics of the last six years from 2017 are favoring this time’s FP2 top seed Fernando Alonso to become the winner of F1.
Earlier, in four consecutive years from 2017 to 2020, it was the veteran driver Lewis Hamilton who finished as the winner of F1; after finishing on top in the scoresheet of the FP2. Later on, in the further two years in 2021 and 2022, Max Verstappen went on to clinch the title after leading all other racers in the FP2 part of the race.
All eyes are on Fernando Alonso in the F1 circuit
Now, all eyes would be on Aston Marin’s Fernando Alonso whether he would continue to be a part of this winning streak for FP2 top-scorers; or will these series end in this year’s F1 clash among some of the brilliant drivers in the F1 circuit.
In another line of events in F1, Red Bull’s advisor Helmut Marko also expressed his views on the possible battle between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.
"Last year he took another step, I think. That he is very fast, we all already knew. But in terms of managing his tires, he got a lot better. Lewis Hamilton might have had an advantage earlier because of his experience, but Max is now at the top on that part too,” said Marko to De Telegraaf.
