Steve Smith said that he cannot do anything about the hectic schedule of Australia in the upcoming World Test Championship league phase. The Aussies will play two away Tests against Sri Lanka and Pakistan, and four away test matches against India.

The Australian team would have to play 18 test matches from August 2021 to June 2023 of the WTC league phase. Eight of the matches would be played in subcontinent conditions. In a recent interview, Smith acknowledged that subcontinental matches are challenging for players physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Smith stated that it is a hectic schedule for Australia with the Ashes and subcontinental tours. In Test cricket, it is challenging for players to play in subcontinental conditions. But there is a lot to look forward to as the players get to display their talent in those conditions. As a player who loves being part of Test cricket, Smith is excited to play as many matches as he could.

The Australian team has got little success in subcontinental Test matches in the last year. They lost the five-Test series in subcontinental conditions. Twice each against India and Pakistan and once to Sri Lanka. The series win Australia had in Asia was under the captaincy of Michael Clarke when they won against Sri Lanka.

The World Test Championship is a good initiative to promote Test cricket: Steve Smith

Steve Smith complimented the World Test Championship and said that it is a cool concept. It increases the relevance of every Test match that a team plays.

Smith added that the Australian team was disappointed to not play in the inaugural WTC final. The team fell short at someplace and they would work hard to make it to the next final of the tournament.

The Australian Team missed out on being a part of the final by a small margin. Their series loss against India earlier this year reduced their chances of playing in the final. But with a successful series win against South Africa, they could have qualified. Due to the covid-19 pandemic, the series against South Africa got postponed and Australia failed to qualify for the title match.
