Along with facing defeat on Tuesday at the hands of the Mumbai Indians, just all went wrong for the Rajasthan Royals. RR skipper Steve Smith was fined heavily for slow-over rate during Mumbai Indians' innings. The team suffered their third back-to-back defeat in IPL 2020 as MI thrashed them by 57 runs.

For their slow-over rate, the Rajasthan team couldn’t finish their share of 20 overs in the allotted time. This was the first over-rate offense by the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2020. As a result, the captain Steve Smith was fined INR 12 lakh.

“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Smith was fined Rs 12 lakh,” stated an IPL media release.

Mumbai Indians thrashed Rajasthan Royals

For the Rajasthan Royals, the Tuesday match was another forgettable journey as they lost their third game in a row in the ongoing IPL. Steve Smith-led RR had two back-to-back wins in their first 2 matches. However, they are struggling in both batting and bowling departments now. They looked like a feeble team against the defending champions on Tuesday.

After winning the toss, MI decided to take the bat first and scored 193 runs at the loss of 4 wickets in their assigned 20 overs. The opening batsmen Rohit Sharma and Quinton De Kock brought a good beginning for their team and piled 49 runs in less than five overs. The newcomer Kartik Tyagi dismissed De Kock before he could add more runs. MI then lost the wicket of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan soon on successive balls along with Krunal Pandya as well. To their relief, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya took charge.

The duo partnered for an unbeaten 76 runs off 36 balls and helped MI to score 193. With 79 runs, Suryakumar Yadav remained unbeaten while Hardik Pandya was not out for 30 runs.

When RR came to bat, 193 runs turned out to be huge for them, as they lost all their wickets at 136. Jos Buttler fought hard and scored 70 off 44. However, the other RR batsmen couldn’t make any notable contributions to the team.

With just 4 points out of 5 matches, RR is at the seventh position on the points table along with a fine slapped on its captain.
