England are not getting things falling in place for them in the ongoing second Ashes 2023 Test at the Lord’s. They were completely dominated by the Aussies on the third day of the Test. Ben Stokes and Co. started the day from the previous day’s score of 278 runs for the loss of four wickets; later on, they faced an embarrassing collapse and lost the remaining six wickets just after adding 47 runs and got bundled up on the score of 325 runs.
Apart from that, the England wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow also made it to the headlines for his failed attempt to sledge the former Australia skipper and the batting superstar, Steve Smith.
It all happened when Smith left a wide delivery of James Anderson and it went into the gloves of Bairstow. Subsequently, the Aussie star shuffled back to get himself settled in the crease. Just after this, Bairstow tried to say something to Smith that the latter couldn’t clearly understand. Here's how the conversation transpired:
Smith: “What’s that”.
Bairstow: “Bit of dancing for you”.
Smith: “Wouldn’t have thought so”.

We’re creating the best environment. But this is not Ashes cricket - Kevin Pietersen
Notably, the former England skipper Kevin Pietersen lashed out at England for their friendly attitude in the ongoing Ashes 2023. “Now it’s one thing walking in, swanning around saying ‘this is a wonderful team to play in, we’re creating the best environment. But this is not Ashes cricket. I’ve played Ashes cricket. I’ve played 30 matches against Australia,” said Pietersen.
“The Australians here were outside to bat before the English bowlers. The English bowlers this morning should have been on those stairs saying ‘We want to bowl at Australia, we’re desperate to bowl at Australia’. These two Australian batters are out there waiting for England,” he added.
Apart from that, the veteran of 104 Tests also recalled the iconic Ashes 2005 when the rivalry was at a peak between England and Australia.
“It’s all too easy and it’s all too nice. Are you telling me, Ricky Ponting, in 2005 is going to be talking to Geraint Jones? You think Michael Vaughan is going to be standing next to Justin Langer and saying ‘Awesome mate, what a cool day …?’" stated Pietersen.
