Team India are currently busy playing the three-match ODI series in New Zealand. Recently, they managed to win the three-match T20I series in New Zealand by 1-0. All big-name players took a rest from this tour. Therefore, Hardik Pandya led the side in the T20I series. On the other hand, Shikhar Dhawan got the opportunity to lead the team in the ODI series.

Keeping the upcoming 2023 50-over World Cup in mind, this series is a great opportunity for many players like Sanju Samson, Shreyas Iyer, and Washington Sundar. Speaking of the match, Kane Williamson won the toss and asked India to bat first. The Men in Blue picked Sanju Samson, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, and Umran Malik in the final playing XI. 

Shreyas Iyer scored 80 runs while Washington Sundar scored 37* runs in the first ODI

For team India, Shubman Gill and Shikhar Dhawan came out to open the innings. However, Dhawan scored 72 runs off 77 balls, including 13 boundaries. Along with him, Gill scored 50 runs off 65 balls, including one four and three sixes. Then, Shreyas Iyer came out to bat. Iyer had a disappointing T20I series. He scored only 13 runs in two matches. But, this time, he did not disappoint his fans. Shreyas Iyer scored 80 runs off 76 balls, including four boundaries and four sixes.

Along with him, Washington Sundar impressed everyone with his batting abilities in the death overs. He remained not out on 37* runs off 16 balls, including three fours and three sixes. After the injury setback, he made a great comeback. Fans went crazy after such a cameo from the star all-rounder. Those innings helped India to score 306 runs for seven wickets in 50 overs.
