Team India recently lost the ICC World Test Championship Final against New Zealand by 8 wickets. Yet, Sunil Gavaskar is hopeful that the team will fare better in the upcoming England series.

Starting on August 4, the men in blue will play against England in a 5-match Test series at Nottingham. In the last England series back in 2018, Team India lost by 4-1. The last time India won a Test series in England was 2007. Since then the team has lost the last 3 times.

Writing in his column for The Telegraph, Sunil Gavaskar noted that the conditions will be more favourable during the England series. Therefore, the Kohli-led team can rest easier. The pitches are likely to be drier and the weather will be sunnier.

He also noted that if Stuart Broad and James Anderson don't take wickets in the first innings, they struggle thereafter. If Team India can withstand the England fast bowlers for the first spell then they might have a good shot at winning.

This summer is likely to be a golden summer for India

He had stated that with time to practice before the England series, the men in blue are likely to play well against the hosts.

However, after the loss against New Zealand the summer has started with disappointment. But Gavaskar believes that the Indian team can still win if they use the loss as motivation for the upcoming Test series.

With around a month to go before the England series, the Kohli-led team can turn things around with practice. At present, the Indian team is on a break after the WTC Final. The players are allowed to leave the secure bio-bubble and travel within England. It would help them get refreshed and well-rested before starting practice.

The BCCI is also trying to arrange practice matches for the team. It would help the players get better adjusted to the English conditions.
