With the Mumbai Indians yet to get their first points in the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League, legendary Indian batter Sunil Gavaskar has identified the Men in Blue and Gold's biggest problem during the league's ongoing season.

The five-time champions Mumbai Indians will be eager to end their winless streak when they face Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023 match No.16 on Tuesday. The team led by David Warner has not won a game in the ongoing season either.

Former India captain Gavaskar spoke at length about Mumbai's biggest concern in the IPL 2023, ahead of the upcoming match between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals. The Rohit Sharma-led team has had a horrible run in the Indian Premier League since the 2022 season, where they finished at the bottom of the points table.

"MI's biggest problem since last season till date has been the lack of partnerships. Unless you have big partnerships, it is difficult for you to score big. MI has been seen struggling continuously in this regard. MI should have built their innings on short but useful partnership between Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan, but they failed," Gavaskar told Star Sports.

Injuries hamper the Mumbai Indians' camp

A slew of injuries has hampered the Mumbai Indians' setup, including that of star pacer Jasprit Bumrah. Jhye Richardson was also ruled out for the entire season before it began. Meanwhile, England pacer Jofra Archer has yet to make an impact for MI this season. The former Rajasthan Royals pacer was injured during MI's first EL Clasico of the IPL 2023 against Chennai Super Kings.

MI recently signed Riley Meredith to replace Richardson in the IPL 2023 season. He was signed by the Mumbai Indians for INR 1.5 crore. Last season, the Mumbai Indians paid a base price of INR 1 crore for the speedster. The Australian pacer had previously played for the Punjab Kings in the IPL 2021.

On Tuesday, the ninth-placed Mumbai Indians will face the Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
