Sunil Gavaskar
Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar feels young batsman Rishabh Pant has sometimes crossed the line between being carefree and careless. His comments came after Rishabh Pant's innings of 41 in India's second innings. The left-handed batsman tried to force things by going down the track several times against New Zealand pacers. Rishabh Pant was India's highest scorer in the second innings of the ICC WTC final. The wicket-keeper batsman scored 41 runs in 88 deliveries. This also included six boundaries. Sunil Gavaskar was disappointed with the kind of show that the Indian batsmen put in on the last day of the match.
India added only 14 runs to their total after Rishabh Pant's dismissal
New Zealand on Wednesday outclassed India by eight wickets to win the maiden edition of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final. New Zealand's two senior batsmen Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor, guided the team to their first-ever ICC trophy since the year 2000.
The Kane Williamson-led side ended up as the runners-up in the 2019 World Cup. The team continued to build on the improvement in the purest format of the game and enjoyed a brilliant World Test Championship cycle. While young pacer Kyle Jamieson picked up seven wickets, Tim Southee and Trent Boult ended up with five wickets each. On the other hand, Neil Wagner also picked up three wickets.
On the sixth day, India's batting collapsed after Kyle Jamieson dismissed two crucial players of the Indian batting unit. Only Rishabh Pant and Rohit Sharma's knock stood out.
On the other hand, New Zealand started its chase cautiously. However, both their opening batsmen fell victim to R Ashwin's intelligence. A couple of dropped catches by Cheteshwar Pujara and Jasprit Bumrah hurt the Indian team. Kane Williamson, 52 not-out, Ross Taylor, 47 not-out, helped New Zealand to a historic win. New Zealand was crowned as the winner of the inaugural ICC World Test Championship. After their victory, the New Zealand cricket team received a whopping $1.6 Million (INR 11.71 Crores). Apart from the prize money, the Blackcaps are also the proud owners of the Test mace. Kane Williamson-led NZ is also the No.1 Test side in the world.
