Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar has predicted which team will win the maiden edition of the World Test Championship. As many cricket experts and players feel that NZ are favorites to win, veteran batsman Sunil Gavaskar, however, has a different take on the matter. During a recent discussion, Sunil Gavaskar was asked to pick his favorites for the WTC final. The veteran accepted that several people feel New Zealand has the edge, but according to him, it is the Indian cricket team that is hungrier to win the WTC.
Most of the NZ players might be exhausted or carry a niggle ahead of the WTC Final: Sunil Gavaskar
The former Indian opening batsman also explained why some cricket experts feel the Kiwis have momentum with them. This is because of their recent performances against the England cricket team. However, Sunil Gavaskar felt otherwise and told that some New Zealand players might be exhausted or carry a niggle ahead of the WTC Final.
The World Test Championship is going to commence three days from now. Virat Kohli-led team India will play against New Zealand in a bid to avenge their World Cup semi-final loss. Both the teams will battle it out to win the first-ever World Test Championship title. India and New Zealand are set to face each other in the summit clash of the WTC at The Rose Bowl, Southampton, from June 18-22. Team India hasn't performed well in their recent tours of New Zealand. The Indian batsmen have particularly struggled against the Kiwi pace attack. Thus, it will be interesting to see how the Indian cricket team performs in the WTC final.
The Men in blue are expected to stay in England and Wales for an extended period post the summit clash. After the WTC final, India will then play against England for five Tests in the English summer.
