The batsman guided DC to a clinical 7-wicket against Punjab Kings. With a total of 380 runs from 8 games, Shikhar Dhawan has now surpassed PBKS skipper KL Rahul (331). Shikhar Dhawan doesn’t take his form lightly: Sunil Gavaskar

Former Indian captain and batting legend Sunil Gavaskar praised Shikhar Dhawan for maintaining a top form in the IPL. While speaking to Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar reckoned that the opening batsman is a player who doesn’t take his form lightly. The veteran further commended the way how Dhawan single-handedly secured DC’s chase and led the side to a comprehensive win.

After a 63-run opening partnership with Prithvi Shaw (39) and a 48-run second-wicket partnership with Steve Smith (24), Dhawan accelerated his innings without dropping much sweat. He took DC closer to the PBKS total and remained unbeaten to finish the game, with 16 balls to spare. With no Rahul in PBKS playing XI, Dhawan also marched ahead of Punjab's regular captain to regain the Orange Cap this season. Shikhar Dhawan has so far been at his best, timing the ball and accelerating really well. The DC opener has scored 380 runs at 134.27 with 3 half-centuries in 8 games.

Punjab Kings captain KL Rahul, who was forced to sit out from the game after getting diagnosed with acute appendicitis, is sitting at the second position in the top run-scorer list. Rahul has scored 331 runs from seven games. The seven-wicket victory over Punjab Kings has taken Delhi Capitals to the top of the points table with 12 points. After the win, Delhi Capitals will next face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Ahmedabad on Saturday (May 8).
