Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar lauded Suresh Raina for an emphatic comeback to the Indian Premier League (IPL). Raina earned praise from the legendary Sunil Gavaskar for his brilliant knock against Delhi Capitals. Chennai Super Kings played their opening game at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday. Suresh Raina had missed IPL 2020 last year, citing personal reasons and played his first match for CSK since 2019 on Saturday. The batsman scored a brilliant fifty and earned praise from all around the world. He smashed 54 off 36 balls knotted with three fours and four sixes, including some sharp strokes against spinners R Ashwin and Amit Mishra.
Not many would have anticipated Raina to hit the ground running in his first match for CSK after a gap of two years. However, the southpaw looked in great touch and displayed his class with an excellent knock. He formed a 53-run partnership for the third wicket with Moeen Ali (36) after CSK had lost both openers Faf du Plessis (0) and Ruturaj Gaekwad (5), inside seven runs.
Bowlers can take a lot of learnings out of the first game: MS Dhoni
Speaking to Star Sports in the mid-innings break, Sunil Gavaskar was astonished seeing Suresh Raina’s heroics and applauded him for his remarkable comeback. However, his knock was not sufficient as Delhi Capitals chased down the total in a canter and won the game by seven wickets. Shikhar Dhawan (85) and Prithvi Shaw (72) fastened the chase with a 138-run opening partnership. DC captain Rishabh Pant then hit the winning runs for the team and made a conquering start in IPL 2021. Shikhar Dhawan was awarded Man of the Match and a host of other awards on the night.
Meanwhile, MS Dhoni & Co., after a forgetful IPL 2020, made a losing start in IPL 2021. CSK captain MS Dhoni complimented the opposition for playing the way they did. Also, Dhoni stated that the dew played a massive role in deciding the result of the match as batting became much easier in the second innings. He further reckoned that his bowlers could take a lot of learnings out of this game and come back more robust in the forthcoming match. Delhi Capitals defeated Chennai Super Kings by eight wickets in the second match of IPL 2021 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Delhi Capitals’ run chase of 189 runs is the joint third-highest successful run chase against CSK in the IPL.
