Sunil Gavaskar’s Prefered Player For India’s Next T20I Captaincy Surprise Fans

The journey of team India in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022 came to an end on 10 November. All fans were expecting to see Rohit Sharma and his men in the final. In the semi-final against England, India looked miserable. Jos Buttler’s men thrashed the Men in Blue by 10 wickets.

After such a humiliating loss, all fans and former cricketers have criticized Rohit Sharma’s team. Now, Sunil Gavaskar opened up about his preferred candidate to replace Rohit Sharma as the leader, especially in T20Is. However, his choice has made some fans surprised after the exit from the ongoing World Cup.

"Yes, he (Hardik Pandya) should be the next India captain as far as T20 cricket is concerned" - Sunil Gavaskar

While speaking to India Today, Sunil Gavaskar claimed that Hardik Pandya needs to be the next captain for India in T20Is. He said: "Yes, he (Hardik Pandya) should be the next India captain as far as T20 cricket is concerned. You will probably see in the next few games that there will be a (change) after the New Zealand tour particularly."

"You know that the teams have been selected right till the end of the Bangladesh tour. So there won't be any change till the New Year. So if any change has to happen it will happen in the domestic international season," Sunil Gavaskar concluded. Hardik Pandya won the last edition of the Indian T20 League as the captain of his Gujarat franchise. Then, he also showed his leadership qualities by winning the T20I series in Ireland. 

However, he also slammed Indian players regarding their ‘Workload management’ concept. Sunil Gavaskar said: “Changes will be there. Jab aap World Cup me jeet nahi sakte, changes honge. Hamne vo dekha hai ki jo New Zealand ke liye team jaa rahi hai, usme changes hue hain. ye jo 'workload-workload' ki baatein chalti hai, Kirti aur Madan ne sahi kaha ki workload sirf Bharat ke liye khelne ke liye kyun hota hai? Aap Indian T20 League khelte hain, poora season khelte hain, vahan aap travelling karte hain… sirf pichhla Indian T20 League 4 centres me hua tha, baaki sab jagah aap idhar-udhar daudte rehte hain. Vahan par aapko thakaan nahi hoti? Vahan workload nahi hota? Sirf jab Bharat ke liye khelna hota hai, vo bhi tab jab aap non-glamorous countries me jaate hain, tab aapka workload banta hai? Ye baat galat hai.”
