India beat West Indies by a small margin of three runs in the first ODI of their three-match series. The match saw some spectacular batting performances with the bat from both the young sides, but in the end, India emerged victorious on the very last ball. With this win, the men in blue took a 1-0 lead in the series.

India batted first at the Queen's Park Oval and got off to a flying start. Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill, who made his comeback to the ODI team, set the perfect tone for the match. The two put on a great show to score a few runs and only took chances off poor deliveries. The duo added 119 runs in the opening partnership, with each scoring a half-century.

A brilliant run-out by Nicholas Pooran got rid of Gill (64) in the 18th over. Shreyas Iyer (54) then joined Dhawan (97) and continued to cruise along. They had a similar batting approach, but were dismissed in quick successions by the 36th over for a team score of 230. India slowed down after that, losing a few more wickets in the process. Not much came their way, but they managed 308/7 on the board.

The hosts suffered an early setback in the chase, but Kyle Mayers (75) and Shamarh Brooks (46) managed to control the innings. The two kept the runs flowing and did not let the early wicket bother them. The duo looked in good touch and added 117 runs for the second wicket partnership on a good batting wicket. Shardul Thakur finally got rid of the two in his two consecutive overs.

The Windies were reduced to 138/3 by the 26th over. However, they did not stop there as runs kept flowing for the men in maroon. Brandon King (54), Nicholas Pooran (25), and the tail gave a tough fight to India. With Akeal Hosein (32) and Romario Shepherd (39) at the strike, the equation came down to 15 runs in the last over.

It was anybody's game, but Mohammed Siraj held his nerves in the final over to not leak runs. He was hit for a four in the over, but bowled brilliantly to concede just 11 runs in the over. He was also able to defend four runs on the final delivery of the match.
