The year's most-awaited event begins today and will witness 5-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians locking horns with Royal Challengers Bangalore. The first clash of the season is going to take place at the Muthiah Annamalai Chidambaram stadium in Chennai. Veteran Indian batsman Aakash Chopra gave his opinion on the first game of the 14th IPL season. Chopra believes that the MI duo of Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav is likely to score more runs in the first match than the RCB duo of Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell. Nevertheless, Chopra was quick to add that it might also be possible that skipper Virat Kohli alone might score the same runs as Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav, together.
Aakash Chopra added that at least one opening batsman from Mumbai and Bangalore would surpass the 30-run mark. The veteran Indian cricketer also mentioned that both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are in great form. They have played a lot of cricket before heading into the Indian Premier League.
I feel spinners will take more wickets than fast bowlers: Aakash Chopra
Defending champions Mumbai Indians are once again the franchise to defeat. The Mumbai-based franchise has retained its core team ahead of the mini-auction this year. The side already has established stars that have rarely let them down. Players like Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan are heading into the season after finding success at the international circuit. The team management will have a lot of expectations from the duo in the 14th season.
Aakash Chopra also stated that the spinners would claim more wickets than the fast bowlers. On the other end, he believes that both teams will be playing more fast bowlers. He reasoned that since the MA Chidambaram Stadium is a huge one, many batters might get caught in the deep. Finally, Chopra signed by saying that the Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians are favorites to win the match.
