Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian batter, is fast becoming a superstar when it comes to the shortest format of the game, although the specialist batter is yet to cement his name in the 50-over format. For the unversed, Shikhar Dhawan, the left-handed batter has gathered 1759 runs in 68 T20I in the format and the specialist batter is on the brink of breaching the record.

As far as the top three are concerned, Virat Kohli stands atop with 4008 runs in 115 matches while team India captain Rohit Sharma has gathered 3853 runs in 148 matches, being the second-highest run-getter. Much to the delight of the Indian fans, KL Rahul stands third with 2265 runs in 72 matches and Dhawan at fourth.

To his surprise, Suryakumar is just 135 runs away from going past the southpaw and one could understand that he is fast becoming an unavoidable batter in the shortest format of the game. To add more to his record, the right-handed batter gathered 1164 runs averaging 46.56 in 2022 with two tons to his name.

Can Suryakumar Yadav prove might in Tests vs Australia?

That being said, the right-handed batter is yet to make a name in the 50-over format and given that there is a 50-over World Cup scheduled to take place later this year. The Indian team announced the squad for the Tests vs Australia and to the surprise of Indian fans, Suryakumar was added to the squad.

It remains to be seen if Suryakumar could prove his might in the series against Baggy Greens although one could understand that he might have been roped in as a back-up batter. In the absence of Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan made a cut to the squad as a back-up wicketkeeper with KS Bharat being the lead keeper. If at all the right-handed batter gets to play in the series, he might be pivotal for Indian team’s success and might as well continue his stint in the longest format of the game as well in the coming days.
