I have not seen anyone bat the way Suryakumar did for an entire season in the T20 league: Sanjay Manjrekar

Former India batsman Sanjay Manjrekar is of the opinion that Suryakumar could be the perfect player for the number 3 role in the T20 World Cup, given his attacking style of batting. Suryakumar Yadav’s national call-up was a result of some consistent seasons for Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Thus, Manjrekar opined that he has not seen anyone bat the way Suryakumar did for an entire season in the T20 league.

Usually, the number three position in the Indian team is occupied by skipper Virat Kohli. However, in the T20I series against England, Virat Kohli promoted himself as an opener and allowed Suryakumar to play one-down. It is most likely that a similar strategy could opt in the upcoming T20 World Cup later this year.

The countdown for the T20 World Cup has already begun. All the teams participating will look to finalize their teams for the showpiece event. India held the hosting rights for the mega event, and it is all set to be staged in September-October this year. Apart from the WC, BCCI has also decided to conduct the second phase of the IPL 2021 in the UAE. IPL 2021 was eventually held in India. However, the competition had to be suspended in the first week of May. A few COVID-19 cases were reported in the bio-bubbles of four IPL teams.
