T Natarajan is now the first Indian bowler to make his debut in all three-game formats on the same tour. The 29-year-old had come to Australia as a net bowler. However, his fortunes have turned around, and the pacer played all the formats in a single tour. He played his first international match in the ODI series at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. After that, the speedster impressed everyone in the following three-match T20I series.
He successfully turned out the Yorkers with utter authority and came into the limelight during the on-going series. Natarajan impressed the selectors after his performance for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2020 Indian Premier League. The Indian team management then took him in the national squad for the Australian tour. Prior to the Border-Gavaskar series, the Indian team had Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav as their three top-notch fast bowlers.
T Natarajan becomes 300th Test player for India
India lost many players due to injuries and so as Australia. Bumrah was the latest bowler to sustain an injury. The Indian team has been facing injury issues right from the beginning of the series.
With Bumrah sitting out, Natarajan has found a place in the playing XI. At the age of 29, he got his maiden call into Test cricket. In his first 12 overs, he showed an incredible amount of consistency but could not manage a dismissal. The Tamil Nadu bowler also bowled a couple of maidens. He has so far bowled 13 overs and given away 31 runs at an economy rate of 2.4.
Natarajan, along with Mohammed Siraj, Navdeep Saini and Shardul Thakur will be handling the fast-bowling department. Prior to the match, Australia’s opening batsman David Warner said he was unsure how Natarajan would perform in Test cricket. In the 13th edition of IPL, T Natarajan played under Warner’s leadership. T Natarajan had featured in 20 first-class matches and picked up 64 wickets with three five-wicket hauls to his name. It remains to be seen how he performs in the last encounter between the top two cricket nations.
