T20 World Cup Decision By ICC On Hold Until Mid-July

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is probably not going to take a decision on the T20 World Cup in Australia. And it will be until its annual board meeting in mid-July. This leaves the Indian board wait to know whether it can organize the postponed Indian Premier League late this year.

The ICC Board members met for a second time this month through video gathering on Thursday. Yet T20 World Cup was not taking up, even when it booked for October-November slot. They just talked about the timetable for the chairman’s election.

“Discussions were good on the chair process. And we may finalize it during next week or so,” said a source.

ICC T20 World Cup hangs by the wire

Britain and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) chairman Colin Graves is the front-runner to succeed the active Shashank Manohar. Moreover, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly could challenge in the contest. He is constraining into a chilling period according to the board's constitution. BCCI has filed an application in the Supreme Court looking to alter the rule. This will empower Ganguly to finish an entire three-year term.

After its past board meeting a fortnight ago, ICC said it would "keep investigating various alternative courses of action". They will decide over the T20 World Cup 2020. "While anticipating the delivery of the event in the planned window is ongoing."

Cricket Australia has said pulling off World Cup this year in midst of coronavirus pandemic is 'impossible' and 'ridiculous'. BCCI is restlessly anticipating a postponement. They have a goal that it can attempt to use the window to arrange IPL, which is Rs 4,000 crore-a-year property.

BCCI authorities state even the broadcaster are keen that IPL finds a window this year. These broadcasters hold the rights for T20 events, the Indian one and the international one.
