Although BCCI hasn't given up hopes of hosting it, taking the World Cup to the UAE is the contingency plan. It can also not be swapped with Australia as they are going to host the 2022 T20 World Cup. According to various reports, UAE has been kept on standby and, if required, the world cup to be shifted out of India. However, in that case, the hosting rights will still continue to remain with the BCCI

We are confident that the situation will improve in the coming days: BCCI

The Apex Council of the BCCI has selected nine venues to host the upcoming T20 World Cup. Nine outlets - Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Dharamshala, Ahmedabad, and Lucknow, have reportedly been confirmed by the BCCI. The T20 World Cup this year will see the entry of three new locations Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Chennai, and Hyderabad. These four venues had not hosted the games in the 2016 edition of the T20 World Cup held in India. According to several sources, the final of the T20 World Cup 2021 will be held at the newly constructed Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Considering the ill-fated IPL 2021 was held across six venues, the reason behind increasing the number of venues for the T20 world cup is that BCCI doesn't want to burden the health infrastructure of one particular state.

ICC T20 World Cup 2021 is the seventh edition of the tournament. West Indies are the defending champions as they conquered England by four wickets in the final of ICC T20 World Cup 2016. The T20 World Cup this year will be a 16-team affair. All the teams will announce their respective squads one month before the competition. There are four grounds in the UAE where international games can be hosted. If the need arises, then that option will also be activated.
