Women’s Asia Cup 2022 brought about the first upset of the tournament when the Thailand Women team defeated the Pakistan Women team in the 10th match.
Coming on to bat first the Pakistan Women’s team started off well with both openers, Muneeba Ali and Ameen coming out with a positive mindset. After the first wicket fell, however, it gave way to all as the other end kept failing. Ameen produced a valiant 56 off 64 but none of the other batters could turn up. At the end of the first innings, Pakistan Women could only make 116/5 in 20 overs. Tippoch from the Thailand Women side took two wickets with Thipatcha Putthawong claiming one.
Coming onto chase what was a below-par total, the Thailand team got off to a similar start as that of Pakistan’s. After the opener batter, Nannapat Koncharoenkai was bowled out by Tuba Hassan at 13, the next batters failed to support Natthakan Chantham. She however kept playing great shots from one end and inched Thailand closer to the target with every ball.
Captain Naruemol Chaiwai helped a little with a brief stint of 17 in 23. With ten runs needed in the last over, Rosenan Kanoh (9) and Nattaya Boochatham (3) held their nerves to get Thailand over the finishing line. This is the first time in its history that Thailand have clinched a win over a top team.
With this win, Thailand Women's team has moved up to fifth on the league table having won one match out of three. Meanwhile, Pakistan slides down to second after winning two matches and losing one out of their three so far. Indian women's team is currently at top of the table with three wins in three matches and a total of six points.
What followed was a celebration from Thailand cricket and all of the cricketing fraternity for the great achievement by the minnow team. Questions however were being asked about Pakistan’s recent performance.

13th ranked Thailand has defeated 6th ranked Pakistan in Women's AsiaCup. Perhaps words are short to criticize or even highlight the problems of Pakistan women's cricket team. The massive decline is an eye opener where Pakistan women's cricket team is standing now. #AsiaCupWomen

Thailand women, take a bow! This is what cricket needs. Take the monopoly away from South Asian nations! 🔥

Thailand an associate nation have better cricket facilities than what Pakistan women would have. There is no proper domestic structure or any int level facilities available to them. If you want to criticize then point towards the shit PCB but we don't have any guts to do that. https://t.co/QGqfhYdGvy

Big fan of Chantham aka Jeans. Such a class. She is a superstar. Thailand women's cricket team is her army. This win is not an upset. Pakistan women's team was never really that good and Thailand are the most improved Asian side. Thank you for a great game. 🇹🇭 ❤️ https://t.co/S1aR0NA5y1
