New Zealand and Ireland locked horns in the first ODI match of their series. The Black Caps won the toss and put Ireland to bat first. The home side did not have the best start with the bat as they lost both their openers early on. However, the innings was stabilized by Andy McBrine (39 runs in 58 balls) and Harry Tector, who formed a 60-run partnership.
Following that, Ireland was able to secure some small partnerships, putting them in a good position. Tector kept scoring runs, while Curtis Campher (43 runs in 47 balls), Lorcan Tucker (26 runs in 22 balls), and Simi Singh (30 runs in 19 balls) had brief appearances. Tector (113 in 117 balls) scored a century and helped India reach a total score of 300 in the first innings.
Ish Sodhi, Blair Tickner, and Lockie Ferguson all grabbed two wickets for New Zealand. In the chase, Martin Guptil (51 runs in 61 balls) played a solid knock at the top of the order, but did not get much support from other batters. He completed his half-century but lost his wicket shortly after that. When Michael Bracewell came in, New Zealand had lost five wickets for a total of 120 runs in 22 overs.
Following that, it was entirely his show as he batted with the tail. He received some support from Ish Sodhi, which provided him with a push. Sodhi (25 runs in 35 balls) was also out for a team total of 214 in 41 overs. Wickets continued to fall for the Kiwis, but Bracewell pressed the throttle to grab some quick runs. He had completed his century by this time.
With one wicket in hand, the equation came down to 20 runs in the final over. Bracewell struck two boundaries on the first two balls, then a six and another boundary on the next two. He hit yet another six to win the match on the fifth ball of the game. With this one-wicket win, New Zealand took a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.

First time in ODI history a team has successfully chased 20 runs target in the 50th over. New Zealand needed 20 off last 6 balls to win against Ireland and they do it with a ball remaining. Terrific hitting from Michael Bracewell who hit 4 4 6 4 6 in the last over. #IrevNZ

Love to see @cricketireland playing some competitive cricket, the way they scored 300 with Tector's century and all inches closed to defend. Love the passion they carry.
Bracewell's final over 44646 has definitely haunted the Irish.
