The fifth season of the Tamil Nadu Premier League is all set to start from July 19 as the state government has given clearance to the tournament. Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) secretary R S Ramaswamy stated that all the matches would be played at the M A Chidambaram Stadium. All the teams are currently in quarantine at a city hotel and are going to begin practice on July 9.

Some of Tamil Nadu’s leading players R Ashwin, M S Washington Sundar, R Sai Kishore, Varun Chakravarthy, and Sandeep Warrier, would not be available for the competition. These players are currently with national commitments. Experienced wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik is presently in the UK and is also likely to miss the contest. Indian all-rounder Vijay Shankar is among the notable names that will be back in action in the upcoming league.

Chepauk Super Gillies is the most successful team in the Tamil Nadu Premier League

The 2020 season of the TNPL was not held due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown. The T20 league features eight teams. It includes Chepauk Super Gillies, Dindigul Dragons, LYCA Kovai Kings, Salem Spartans, iDream Tiruppur Tamizhans, Ruby Trichy Warriors, Nellai Royal Kings, and Siechem Madurai Panthers

Tamil Nadu Premier League saw its maiden edition back in 2016. The Tamil Nadu cricket association followed the IPL blueprint and got a great response. Chepauk Super Gillies is one of the most successful teams of the Tamil Nadu Premier League. Chepauk Super Gillies is the only side to have won TNPL twice. In the forthcoming season, they will come out with the reputation of defending champions and will look to repeat their 2019 performance once again.

All 32 games, including the final, are going to take place at MA Chidambaram Stadium. There will be seven doubleheaders in the league phase, which is going to will be held without a break. Star Sports is going to broadcast all the games of the TNPL on its various channels, including Star Sports Tamil.
