Team India fans are eagerly waiting for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia at home in February. The squad of the Men in Blue for the series has been announced already. However, fans were hoping to see Sarfaraz Khan in the squad based on his dominating performance in the domestic circuit for the last several years.
But, the Indian Cricket team selectors shocked everyone by avoiding Sarfaraz Khan again for the series. Instead of him, they went with Ishan Kishan and Srikar Bharat as Rishabh Pant is currently unavailable. Now, regarding Sarfaraz’s exclusion, one of team India's selectors, Sridharan Sharath opened up about the real reason.
"He is certainly on our radar. In due course, he will get his due.” - Sridharan Sharath on Sarfaraz Khan
In an interaction with Sportstar, Sridharan Sharath said: "Kohli is still a match-winner. Cheteshwar Pujara brings stability to batting. Rohit Sharma is an excellent leader and a fabulous bat. Shreyas Iyer has been consistent. Shubhman Gill and K.L. Rahul have the genuine ability.”
Regarding the exclusion of Sarfaraz Khan, the selector said: "He is certainly on our radar. In due course, he will get his due. While picking the team, we have to consider things like composition and balance." However, the wicketkeeper batter from Mumbai also opened up and said that it would not stop him from trying and making sure of his place in team India.
While talking to Indian Express, Sarfaraz Khan said: “Everywhere I go, I hear murmurs that he will play for India soon. On social media, I have thousands of messages talking about my exclusion. Sab bolte hain tera time aayega (everyone says your time will come). I came from Assam to Delhi the day after the selection and wasn’t able to sleep the whole night. I kept asking why am I not there? But now after speaking to my father, I’m back to normal. I will never give up the practice, I will not go under depression. Don’t worry, I will keep trying.”
