The cricket fanatics did not have the best favourable circumstances in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic. Because of the outbreak, the sport was suspended in March and for the next six months. There was no action around the world. International cricket finally commenced in July when England welcomed West Indies. Post that the game has slowly but steadily returned towards its normal situation.
However few venues have allowed the fans to attend the games in stadiums, but the game is yet to return ultimately. As far as Indian cricket is concerned, it started in September when the Indian Premier League took place in UAE. The tournament had to be conducted in the UAE because of India's pandemic situation and was a huge hit.
After the completion of the IPL, the Indian team left for Australia and played their first match on November 27. Before that, India played their last game in early March. The men in blue are still in Australia and are currently playing in the Border Gavaskar Test series. But unlike 2020, the year 2021 is going to be a hectic year for the team. The fans should be ready for a memorable year.
Let’s look at Team India’s schedule for 2021:
January: Australia vs India
The new year will begin with the ongoing Test series in Australia. Team India’s first task of 2021 will be the third Test at Sydney. The final Test between the two teams is in Brisbane from January 15. With the fourth match, India’s long tour of Australia will come to an end.
February to March: England tour of India
After the conclusion of the Australian tour, India will play the home series against England. The men in blue have not played a single game at home since the ODI series against Australia in January. England will visit India for a complete series comprising of four Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is.
April to May: IPL 2021
Although the 13th edition of IPL was conducted in UAE because of the pandemic, the next edition is set to be played at home.
June: India tour of Sri Lanka and Asia Cup
Following IPL, India will be heading to Sri Lanka for a three-match ODI series and five T20Is. The Indian team is likely to extend their stay in Sri Lanka to participate in the Asia Cup.
July: India’s tour of Zimbabwe
After the Sri Lanka tour, the men in blue will fly to Zimbabwe for a One Day series.
August to September: India’s tour of England
Following the tour of Zimbabwe, India will fly to England. Team India is going to play five Tests against England in August. The series is going to kickstart both the team’s campaign in the next ICC World Test Championship.
October: South Africa tour of India
India will return home and host South Africa in October before the T20 World Cup 2021.
ICC T20 World Cup 2021
The mega event of 2021 will be the T20 World Cup which is going to take place in India. The Indian team will be desperate to get their hands on the trophy. The side has not won the title since its inaugural edition in 2007.
November: New Zealand tour of India
After the T20 World Cup, Virat Kohli-led side will play against New Zealand for two Tests and three T20Is in India.
December: India tour of South Africa
Lastly, Team India will end the year with a tour of South Africa in December. Virat Kohli & Co will play three Tests and as many T20Is against South Africa.
