South Africa limited-overs skipper Temba Bavuma has been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against Pakistan. The 30-year-old has suffered a Grade One hamstring injury in the third ODI match between South Africa and Pakistan at Centurion. Reeza Hendricks will also not be available for the Proteas team for the entire T20I series against Pakistan. The batsman will be with his family for the birth of his child.
On the other hand, Rassie van der Dussen will not be a part of the series as he is still recovering from his muscle strain. It has also been known that right-handed batsman Dwaine Pretorius has still not got medical clearance to play in the series against Pakistan. The 32-year-old is still recovering from his rib fracture.
Heinrich Klaasen to lead South Africa against South Africa
Wicket-keeper batsman Heinrich Klaasen is going to lead South Africa in the absence of regular skipper Temba Bavuma. Proteas stars Rabada, Quinton de Kock, Anrich Nortje, David Miller and Lungi Ngidi, left to play in the IPL. All the proficient players headed to India after South Africa's 17-run win over Babar Azam's men in the second ODI. A four-match T20I series between South Africa and Pakistan is going to commence on April 10.
In the recent ODI series, the Babar Azam-led side got the better of South Africa. Although all three games were closely fought, Babar Azam and his men won the series 2-1. The visitors have been in excellent form in T20I format as they have won 7 out of the last ten matches that they have played. On the other end, the Proteas side has been in abysmal form in the game's shortest format.
In their last 11 games, South Africa won only two. The team will now be looking for a turnaround. This upcoming T20 series will help both sides to prepare for the all-important T20 World Cup that will take place in India later this year.
