The defending champion of the Australian Open, Belarusian star Aryna Sabalenka continued her dominance in the tournament as she clinched the second successive title at the Australian Open. Sabalenka defeated China’s 12th-ranked Zheng Qinwen by 6-3, 6-2 in the women’s singles final of the tournament.

It took only 33 minutes for Sabalenka to successfully clinch the first set of the match by 6-3 against Qinwen at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne. Subsequently, she won the second set comfortably by 6-2 to comfortably win the final and register a second consecutive title win at the Australian Open.

Since 2013, it has been the first time in the Australian Open that a woman has won two successive titles at this tournament; last time, it was another Belarusian star and Sabalenka’s compatriot Victoria Azarenka, who won the title in the Australian Open 2012 and 2013, respectively.

Sabalenka also spoke after his victory in the women’s singles final of the Australian Open 2024 and lauded her Chinese opponent Zheng Qinwen for her brilliant efforts.

“It’s been an amazing couple of weeks. I couldn’t imagine myself lifting this trophy one more time and it’s an unbelievable feeling right now. I’m speechless,” said Sabalenka after winning the title.

“I want to congratulate Qinwen on an incredible couple of weeks. I know this feeling is tough to lose in the finals. You’re such an incredible player, you’re such a young girl. You’re gonna be in many more finals. You’re gonna get it. I want to say congrats to you & your team on the amazing job you guys have done,” she added later in her winning speech while addressing Zheng Qinwen.

Furthermore, Qinwen also congratulated her opponent and champion Sabalenka during her post-match speech after the final.

“Congrats to Aryna for having such a wonderful match here. It’s my first final. I feel a little bit of pity but that’s how it is. It’s an experience for me. At the same time, I want to say thanks to all the fans who came here to watch me. I feel right now a bit complicated. I feel I could do better but I didn’t in this match,” Qinwen said.
