The Indian Tennis legend Rohan Bopanna created history on Wednesday, January 24 when he, alongside his Australian partner Matthew Ebden defeated the Argentine duo of Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni in the quarter-final of the ongoing Australian Open 2024. The Ebden-Bopanna duo made it to the men’s doubles semi-final of the tournament.

With this historic moment, Rohan Bopanna became the oldest player in the world to secure the number one rank in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings.

In the same line of events, Rohan Bopanna’s long-time mixed-doubles teammate and former Indian Tennis legend. Sania Mirza took to X to share a heartfelt post for Rohan Bopanna after the latter’s historic success following the quarter-final win in the Australian Open 2024.

“So proud Ro, no one deserves it more,” wrote Sania Mirza in her post on X (formerly Twitter) for Rohan Bopanna.

Notably, Rohan Bopanna also spoke and expressed his happiness after the success in the Australian Open 2024. He also felt that it was something Indian tennis needed.

“It’s been incredible. Twenty years of being in this sport, playing these tournaments week in, week out and today, reaching the number one ranking. It’s an extremely amazing and proud feeling. It probably hasn’t sunk in fully yet but yes, credit to the entire team. From the family, coach, and physio to everyone behind the scenes who plays such a huge important role and always keeps me positive. Of course, my partner Matthew Ebden,” said Bopanna after his win in the quarter-final against the Argentine duo.

“Indian tennis needed this. I’m really happy to be representing India across the world. In this tennis journey, there’s been so much of love and support from the entire country for two decades,” he added later.
