In a piece of disheartening news for cricket fans across India and Pakistan, another match between the arch-rivals has been called off due to heavy rain on the scheduled day. Both teams took on each other on the scheduled day of Sunday at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The conditions looked good in the first half of the first innings but the heavy rain interrupted the match and it eventually forced the officials to call off the match and reschedule it on the reserve day i.e., on Monday, September 11.
At the time of the toss, the Pakistan skipper had the upper hand and decided to field first considering the overcast conditions. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill came in the middle to start the proceedings for India.
Rohit and Gill's start put India in a strong position before Shadab, Shaheen strike
The duo laid an outstanding foundation as they stitched a partnership of 121 runs for the first wicket in 16.4 overs. Rohit fell prey to Shadab Khan on the individual score of 56 runs after hitting 3 sixes off the latter. Just in the next over, Shaheen managed to give a payback to Shubaman Gill for the initial onslaught by trapping him in a slower one.
Shadab Khan and Shaheen Shah Afridi scalped one wicket each for Pakistan till the rain interrupted the match. At the time of interruption, the men in blue had scored 147 runs for two wickets in 24.1 overs having former skipper Virat Kohli and comeback guy KL Rahul there in the middle on the individual scores of 8 and 17 runs, respectively.
Now, the match will be resumed on Monday without any loss of overs as India will start from the same score with KL Rahul facing the first ball on the reserved day. Notably, it is for the second time in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 that the India vs Pakistan clash has been called off due to rain.
