Australia beat Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the first game of the two-match Test series in Galle. The game, which was dominated by the spinners, ended in the first session of day three itself. Nathan Lyon and Travis Head were the stars with the bat, while Cameron Green was the star with the bat for Australia.
Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first on a turning track. They did not have much to look forward to in the innings, as they were all out for a score of just 212. Only Niroshan Dickwella was able to get some runs for the home team. He scored 58 runs in his short stay at the crease. For Australia, Nathan Lyon was at the top of his game. He took complete advantage of the wicket that had some spin on offer. He took a five-wicket haul in the first innings.
Australia was also challenged by spin in the following innings, although they were able to score some runs. The team captained by Pat Cummins was able to form a few decent partnerships, allowing them to get a high score. Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green scored 71 runs and 77 runs in the innings, respectively. The team managed to score 321 runs, taking a lead of 109 runs.
In their next batting innings, Sri Lanka had another batting collapse. The team was all-out within 23 overs at the crease. No batter was able to score significant runs in the innings. Lyon was at his best once more, and Travis Head provided assistance. Each got four wickets in the innings, completely destroying Sri Lanka's batting lineup.
Sri Lanka was bowled out for a score of just 113 runs, setting a target of five runs for Australia. Except for Mitchell Starc's two overs in the innings, no other fast bowler came to bowl. David Warner then hit a four and a six in the first over to complete that game for his team. With this, Australia took a 1-0 lead in the series.

🗣️ Cummins: "It was an amazing win! Turning up this morning, I didn't think it was going to be over that fast. The way everyone played was outstanding. I don't think we were surprised at the conditions. We were clear in our planning and how to go about it..." #SLvAUS pic.twitter.com/1OwMmR7ZKr

The 1st #SLvAus Galle Test just lasted 920 balls - the shortest Test match that ended in home side's defeat since Australia beat New Zealand in the Wellington Test in 1946/46 which lasted 872 balls.
