Australia won the fifth Test by 146 runs after the English batters failed to chase a target of 271 runs in Hobart. England suffered another batting collapse in this game as the last nine batters could add only 56 runs to the total. The duo of Rory Burns and Zak Crawley added 68 runs before Cameron Green dismissed Burns for 26 runs, ending the first wicket stand. Only four batters were able to make a double-digit score.

For Australia, the trio of Pat Cummins, Scott Boland, and Cameron Green picked three wickets each. Green picked the first three wickets of the English batting unit and managed to open the floodgates. Travis Head made 357 runs in four matches at an average of 59.5 He made two centuries including 101 in the first innings of the Hobart Test. Head won the Player of the Match award for his performance in the fifth Test and also won the Player of the Series award.

The win was pleasing for Australia but coach Justin Langer is not satisfied. Langer said he wants to win a Test series in Asia as that would be the real test of the team. "We can't wait to play Test cricket in Asia, that is where you rate whether it's a good side or not,” Langer said as quoted by a prominent social media page CricCrazyJohns.

Australia is scheduled to play nine Test matches in Asia this year. They will travel to Pakistan in March to play three Test matches, three ODIs, and one T20I. The team will travel to Sri Lanka in two Test matches and five ODIs. Australia will play four Test matches and three T20Is in India. Australia last won a series in India during the 2004-05 series by a 2-1 margin.
