'The Curse is Real'- Twitter stunned as Rohit Sharma fails to surpass Ricky Ponting's most consecutive wins as a captain

Former Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting was one of the greatest players and captains to have represented the game. In his playing days, he troubled many bowlers and broke many records. Some of these records remain intact to date. Rohit Sharma recently came extremely close to breaking one of his records, but could not surpass him.

Ponting holds the record for most consecutive wins as the captain of the team, 20. The Indian captain was on a 19-match winning streak until he was defeated by England in the third ODI of their series. He had not lost a single match since he took over as India's full-time captaincy.

As it turns out, this is not the first time that a Ricky Ponting record has come close to being broken but stayed intact. Virat Kohli is just behind Ponting in international century count. The former Indian skipper has 70 centuries, while Ponting has 71 centuries. Virat has been stranded on this number for over two and a half years now.

Virat also had 27 Man of the Match awards as the captain, while Ponting had 28. The 33-year-old stepped down as India's captain from all formats of the game before he could break the record. On the other hand, another record set by the Australian great remains intact. He has scored 30 ODI centuries, while Rohit Sharma has scored 29 centuries. The current Indian captain has not been able to score an ODI century in the last year.

In the meantime, Twitter was sure that Ricky Ponting knew black matches because all of his records remained unbroken. "I'm sure that Ricky Ponting knows black magic," a fan hilariously wrote.

As for the match against England, India lost by 17 runs. The batting lineup faltered while chasing a huge target of 216 runs. Suryakumar Yadav (117), however, had the remarkable fighting spirit to make a century and bring India close to winning the match.
