World cricket has seen several greats of the game but only a few players manage to create a legacy of their own. Viv Richards, Sachin Tendulkar, AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli are some of the names that come to mind due to their impact on the game. On the bowling front, Wasim Akram, Dale Steyn, Ravi Ashwin, and Pat Cummins stand out. Every time a young player starts to take giant strides in international cricket, cricket fanatics start to draw comparisons between him and other greats of the game. Pakistan skipper Babar Azam is one such cricketer who is always compared to Virat Kohli.
Kohli is undoubtedly this generation’s best batter. He has managed to shatter records for fun and always sets the bar for his peers and competitors. The 33-year-old is also the only player to have an average of 50 in all three formats. On the other hand, Azam has also been terrific across formats in the last few years.
Pakistan all-rounder Faheem Ashraf feels Virat Kohli and Babar Azam have set very high standards and are the best players in the world right now. “The entire world looks at Virat Kohli and Babar Azam as two of the best batters in the world right now,” Faheem was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Azam has been in some rich vein of form for Pakistan in 2021. He was the leading run-getter in the 20-20 World Cup, finishing up with 303 runs. Azam also took Pakistan to the semifinal of the showpiece event. The 26-year-old carried that form in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh and scored 99 runs.
Meanwhile, Ashraf managed to score 38 runs and pick two wickets in the two-Test matches. So far, the Pakistan all-rounder has played 13 Tests, scoring 632 runs and picking 22 wickets.
