Punjab Kings managed to have an upper hand in the end and won the thrilling match against Rajasthan Royals in the eighth fixture of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2023. Both teams played this match at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati on Wednesday. The hosts’ skipper Sanju Samson won the toss and asked the Kings to bat first.
Batting first, Punjab managed to post a decent total of 197 runs for the loss of four wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Royals gave a tough fight to Punjab in the second innings but they failed to cross the line and lost the match by a very close margin in the end.

Speaking of the entire action of the match, the opening pair of the skipper Shikhar Dhawan and the young batter Prabhsimran Singh provided a strong start to Punjab. The duo stitched a partnership of 90 runs for the first wicket in 9.4 overs. Prabhsimran played a blistering knock of 60 runs off just 34 balls with seven boundaries and three sixes to his name. Other than him, skipper Dhawan also played a very crucial knock of 86 runs off just 56 balls with nine boundaries and three sixes on his credit.
On the back of these knocks, the Kings managed to post a total of 197 runs for the loss of four wickets in the first 20 overs. Jason Holder scalped two wickets for the Royals alongside one wicket each claimed by R Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal.
While defending the target, Nathan Ellis played a vital role in restricting Rajasthan Royals’ batting lineup. Ellis scalped four wickets by conceding 30 runs in his quota of four overs. He also won ‘the Player of the Match award. Eventually, Punjab Kings won the match by five runs to register their second successive win in the tournament.
