On 23 August 2022, Manchester United locked horns with their arch-rivals, Liverpool, at Old Trafford in the English Premier League. Speaking of the form, United’s season started poorly after losing the first two matches. On the other hand, Liverpool also failed to show their dominance this season. They only bagged two points from two matches.
Hence, the stage was set for both these teams to kick off their season with some positive football actions. Meanwhile, Manchester United unveiled Casemiro as their new player before the kick-off. Although, a protest was there regarding the ownership of the Manchester club. However, United coach Erik ten Hag took a huge decision by benching Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo. He also gave starts to Malacia and put a new center-back pairing of Martinez and Varane.

Speaking of the match, United started the match with full aggressiveness as they attached the Liverpool defense. Elanga got an early opportunity also but he hit the post. But, Manchester United took the lead in the 16th minute as Jadon Sancho Opened the scoring. Liverpool’s Van Dijk and James Milner were completely clueless during conceding that goal. However, the visitors failed to equalize in the first half.
In the second half, United started with the same energy. Martial came up as a substitute also. But, in the 53rd minute, Marcus Rashford made it 2-0 with another superb finish. However, Liverpool tried hard and made some brilliant chances. But, in the United defense, Malacia, Dalot, Varane, and Martinez had a fantastic game overall. They hardly gave any chances to Liverpool attackers to create any big moments. Meanwhile, in the 81st minute, Mo Salah managed to score a goal out of nowhere. But, the home side kept their nerve still. They came out victorious and gained the first three points of the season on the board.
