Chennai is taking on Hyderabad in the 46th encounter of the Indian T20 League 2022 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. Sent in to bat first, Chennai had a great start, as Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway tore apart the Hyderabad bowling.
The two looked at complete ease and took Chennai to a comfortable position. Gaikwad, playing at his home ground, was looking in great touch. Gaikwad hit some crisp shots and looked set for his second Indian T20 League hundred. The batter, however, missed his century of the season by just one run.
He was dismissed by T Natarajan in the 18th over. Gaikwad scored 99 runs in 57 balls, with six fours and six sixes. Meanwhile, Chennai had an opening stand of 182. Conway also complimented Gaikwad with a great knock. He scored 85 runs in 55 balls, with eight fours and four sixes in the innings.
With this opening partnership, the duo broke many records. This was the highest partnership in the Indian T20 League history against Hyderabad. The previous high was 157 runs in 2016 by Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. This was also the highest partnership in the Indian T20 League 2022. The previous best partnership in the season was 165 runs by Robin Uthappa and Shivam Dube. This was also the highest opening partnership in the history for Chennai. Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis set the previous record of 181. Meanwhile, fans had some great reactions to Gaikwad-Conway onslaught.
