‘The Super King of Wanderers!’ – Fans laud Faf du Plessis as he hits first-ever century of SA20 league

On 24 January 2023, Joburg Super Kings took on Durban’s Super Giants in the ongoing SA20 League. It was the 22nd match of the tournament that took place in Johannesburg. Both teams were looking to improve their respective positions at the table by winning the clash. Speaking of the match, du Plessis won the toss and asked Durban’s Super Giants to bat first.

For the Durban franchise, Kyle Mayers and Quinton de Kock came out to open the innings. But, de Kock got out after scoring six runs off nine balls. While Kyle Mayers scored 28 runs off 15 balls, including two fours and three sixes. Then, Matthew Breetzke scored 28 runs off 24 balls, including one four and one six.

Faf du Plessis scored 113* runs off 58 balls in the match

After that, Heinrich Klaasen scored 65 runs off 48 balls, including seven fours. The Protea batter batted at a strike rate of 135.41. In the end, Jason Holder scored 28* runs off 12 balls, including four boundaries and one six. Finally, they managed to score 178 runs for six wickets in 20 overs. For the Joburg franchise, Maheesh Theekshana and Gerald Coetzee took three wickets each. In reply, skipper Faf de Plessis and Reeza Hendricks came out for the chase. Both openers gave a solid start to their team.

Hence, the first wicket fell after they scored 157 runs in 16.3 overs. Reeza Hendricks scored 45 runs off 46 balls, including four boundaries and two sixes. But, Faf du Plessis showed his class and scored 113* runs off 58 balls, including eight fours and eight sixes. He batted at a strike rate of 194.82. It was the first-ever century in the ongoing SA20 League. Thus, they chased down the target in 19.1 overs and they won the clash with eight wickets to spare. Du Plessis won the player of the award for his match-winning knock. Fans also went crazy after seeing such a top knock from the batter.
