The T20 World Cup will be vital for Virat Kohli's captaincy career: Saba Karim

Former Indian cricketer Saba Karim recently stated that the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 will be vital for Virat Kohli’s captaincy career. Virat Kohli has not won a single ICC Tournament as captain of Team India. Kohli was the skipper of the Indian Test team which played against New Zealand in the ICC World Test Championship final. Unfortunately, Kohli missed out on a chance to win his first-ever ICC trophy as captain of Team India. New Zealand defeated Team India by 8 wickets to win the 1st edition of the ICC World Test Championship.

Karim also mentioned that this could be Virat Kohli’s final ICC tournament as an Indian skipper. Virat Kohli will need to be at his best to ensure that India wins the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Kohli has captained India in 3 ICC tournaments so far. In Kohli’s 1st ICC tournament as Indian skipper, India bowed out in the semis of the 2017 Champions Trophy. In Kohli’s 2nd ICC tournament as an Indian skipper, India lost against New Zealand in the semis of the 2019 ODI World Cup.

Former Indian cricketer Reetinder Sodhi stated that Kohli has all the qualities to help India win the upcoming T20 World Cup. There is no doubt that Virat Kohli has enjoyed quite a lot of success as captain of the Indian Team. In the Test format, Kohli boasts an impressive win rate of almost 60%. Moreover, Virat Kohli is also the most successful Indian captain in the longest format of the game. In the T20I format, India has won 27 out of 45 matches under Kohli’s captaincy. Clearly, Kohli is an effective captain. However, Kohli has to win an ICC trophy as India’s captain to prove that he can still lead India in all 3 formats of the game. Kohli will certainly give his best to win the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 with Team India.
