However, the importance of the upcoming phase is a little more for the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, who will probably fire his final shot at the World Cup.

Rohit is currently 36 years old and he would be 40 by the time the next World Cup commences. As such, ODI World Cup 2023 is definitely the last 50-over World Cup for the Indian skipper. As such, he would be hoping to win the tournament this season. Not to forget that the Men in Blue will get the home advantage with India being the sole hosts for the tournament this time. Reviewing Rohit’s legacy as India’s captain, former West Indies great Ian Bishop opined that the upcoming phase would determine where Rohit would stand among India’s greatest skippers.

Has been a general of that format’ – Ian Bishop

"These next few months are critical to cementing his legacy as a leader if he can take some of that silverware back home. As far as leadership role is concerned, he is obviously aware that India with all its resources - playing and economic - the fulfillment of a major tournament since that Champions Trophy in England is something they definitely want," Bishop opined.

Notably, Rohit Sharma was left out of the squad that won the 2011 World Cup at home. Disappointed with the snub, Rohit worked hard to improve his numbers and cemented his place in the team in 2013. He was instrumental in India’s Champions Trophy win in 2013 at England. Bishop also acknowledged the Indian skipper’s batting talent and monumental rise in the ODI format. "Rohit has been an outstanding batter and particularly if you talk about his record in the 50-over format. Has been a general of that format. Now he is making a really good fist of his Test batting," he added.
